Cow Tipping Creamery

The beautiful Austin weather is finally back! Before it gets cold again, you must try this ice cream trailer…

You know when you order ice cream with a topping and you run out of the topping almost instantly? I know that frustration. You can go ahead and think of Cow Tipping Creamery as your new best friend. They have mastered the technique of “stacking.” No longer will you have to worry about running out of your favorite topping. It’s truly a wonderful concept.

Pictured above is the “All the Ritz” stacker. Vanilla ice cream covered in fudge sauce, peanut butter sauce and Ritz crunch. My only complaint is that the chocolate fudge hardened quickly so there were massive mounds of chocolate to break up. It was still delicious though. To avoid this minor issue, you can opt for chocolate sauce instead of fudge. I will know next time.

Check out the menu here and the facebook page for hours. Enjoy your expertly stacked toppings!

Tacos and Tequila

Tacos and Tequila… what a great concept.

Last weekend I ventured out to TNT with some friends for the first time. As the name suggests, they specialize in two things: tacos and tequila. By specialize, I mean they know how to do it right. They didn’t let me down. The top shelf margarita was perfect and the tacos had just the right amount of kick. I also enjoyed the variety of dips that came with the complimentary bag of chips.

The environment is modern and hip with a massive bar in the center (hence the tequila aspect). The service was great too. Phenomenal all around I would say.  I already can’t wait to go back to try something else on the menu. Not to mention the happy hour special… street tacos for $1.50? Count me in.

Vintage Heart Coffee Shop

20130128-161740I am currently on a mission to try all of the popular coffee shops in Austin that I have yet to experience. Vintage Heart, located on East 7th St., was my first stop.

This shop instantly became one of my favorites for its atmosphere. The decor can be described as homey with a neutral color palette, warm wood tones and pinteresty details (you’ll know what I’m talking about when you see the wall of mismatched picture frames).

Besides the welcoming vibe, Vintage Heart knows how to do a good cup of coffee. I had the cappuccino shown above and was very satisfied with my order. I am determined to go back and try the “Ginger Peach” iced tea. Yum! P.S. they have tempting pastries from the Red Rabbit Cooperative Bakery including vegan muffins and brownies.

For those who like to study or do work at coffee shops, Vintage Heart is a great option. The noise level was minimal when I was there yesterday afternoon and the music wasn’t distracting. Plus, there is free wi-fi and plenty of outlets. The website has great pictures that showcase the homey atmosphere that I’m talking about.

Vintage Heart might be the cutest coffee shop that I have been to in Austin so far. I highly recommend it!

H&M in Austin!

Have you been to the new H&M in Austin yet? I went for the first time this weekend and it was overwhelming to say the least. I don’t suggest going on a Saturday during the holiday season. None the less, it is so exciting that we have a H&M store at the Domain now! It’s definitely worth the trip. Just be prepared for a crowd!

Perla’s Seafood and Oyster Bar

Perla’s on South Congress is one of my favorite seafood restaurants in Austin. My family and I went there this weekend and had an amazing brunch. I highly recommend this restaurant for lunch, brunch, or dinner!

Mouth-watering appetizer of hush puppies

My dad enjoyed half-a-dozen oysters and an “oyster shooter.” I am not an oyster fan but he was quite satisfied with this appetizer. I will just have to take his word for it!

My mom’s meal was killer… ceviche and a shrimp po boy

This is my go-to favorite for brunch at Perla’s: Brioche French Toast with coconut ice cream and maple syrup. It’s simply delicious. However, I recommend ordering a side of bacon, sausage, or eggs with this dish. The rich, sweet flavor needs something salty for balance.

Craving Perla’s yet? Go check out this restaurant if you have yet to experience their amazing food! Your stomach will thank you, unless  you end up eating too much of course. It’s just that delicious.
